Maria Montessori explained that one of the main roles of parents is to offer their children a healthy and suitable environment in which they can fully move and flourish.
In a previous article, we discussed the theme of the room adapted to the needs of the child . Today we focus more specifically on the little one's bed.
At the beginning of his life, in most cases, the child shares his parents' room, because he is still in symbiosis with them. Then he enters his own room.
As far as the bed is concerned, several options are available to you, here are a few:
Topponcino
Recommended by Maria Montessori, the topponcino is a small soft mattress, approximately 40 to 50 cm, covered with a fabric in which the child can be wrapped. It reminds him of his mother's womb which he abruptly left recently. The first three weeks, he does not leave this warm and reassuring space. You can put the topponcino on a cradle, a bed, a table. Little by little, we can replace it with a classic sleeping bag.

The cradle
Until its 6 or 9 months, although there is no rule; you can use a crib. Choose cradles that are not too big so that the child feels safe. In addition, shallow cradles are also to be favored, because they allow the little one to have a wider field of vision and to observe the world around him.
We love rattan models, we have selected 3 of them for you. For example, this cradle HERE
The low bed
When the child is ready, he leaves the cradle for a bed. The low bed is recommended because it does not enclose the child and it gives him freedom of movement while preventing him from falling and hurting himself. He can then explore as soon as he wakes up. However, to install this type of bed, the bedroom must be completely secure (socket, door, etc.). If your child still seems too young, you can go for a travel cot whose transparent edges will allow the child to observe his environment.
