Activité : la science des fruits

Activity: fruit science

Children are fascinated by the world around them. They feel great joy when they can study it in detail. Thanks to this activity, the child will be able to study the different structures of fruits, compare their seeds and dissect them.

Material :

- A cutting board
- tools for dissecting (small knife, small scissors, pliers or small forcep, small scalpel...)
- fruits of your choice
- fruit nomenclature cards

Unfolded :

1) Invite the child to cut the fruit and extract the seeds: He opens the fruit with the knife, digs around the pip with the scalpel, then extracts the pip with the pliers. You can explain to him the names of the different parts of the fruit. If you have nomenclature cards on the composition of a fruit (or you have made some at home) , you can take them out. Offer to repeat the experiment with the other fruits you have chosen.

2) Arrange the seeds in a bowl. Set up cards representing each fruit that your child has previously dissected . Ask your child to match the pips to the correct card. If some seeds look alike, he will have to observe them carefully.

3) This experience is the ideal opportunity to explain the life cycle of a fruit, in particular to explain that the small seeds can give a new fruit, if they are planted in the ground.

4 ) When the child is ready, tell him that the activity is over. Invite him to put the equipment away and wash the table.
